NLD is a less known, but potentially more devastating learning difference than the more commonly known verbal ones. These children fool their teachers and parents, at least initially, with their strong verbal skills!
As a parent of an NLD adolescent, I am asking teachers to educate themselves about this disability, which is really a constellation of different things. Left undiagnosed, these children will spiral down into the pit of low self-esteem, depression, and everything that is associated with that.
The Resource Room Teacher is a dialogue dedicated to all things Special Education, SETSS and teaching in NYC.
The site is moderated by William "Rockey" Neff, a graduate of the NYC Teaching Fellows at Mercy College. Rockey provides support for students in resource room classes at the High School for Teaching and The Professions in the Bronx.
Your comments, experiences, information, lesson plans, units and ideas are welcome! You can also email at Resourceroomteacher@gmail.com
